Thomas Urquhart

BIOGRAPHY

Thomas Urquhart was educated at Oxford University. His career has been devoted to the non-profit sector. After nine years working for performing arts organizations, he went to work for the Massachusetts Audubon Society; he has been an active conservationist for a quarter of a century. During that time Mr. Urquhart has worked with the International Council for Bird Preservation in Cambridge, England as deputy director; with the National Audubon Society, building Audubon organizations in various states; and with the Maine Audubon Society, of which he was executive director from 1988 to 2000. He has also consulted internationally, for the World Wildlife Fund and the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development. He currently consults on business and the environment as a principal in the firm of Urquhart & Spritz.

Mr. Urquhart has written for numerous publications in Europe and America on environmental, conservation and cultural topics. He has also traveled extensively including most of the European countries; Mali, Botswana and Nigeria in Africa; Peru and French Guyana in South America; and various islands. A father of three, he lives with his wife, children’s author Amy MacDonald, and their children in Falmouth, Maine.
